The Denington Choral Series, as endorsed by former King’s Singer member Philip Lawson, is a range of choral works set in both SATB and SSA formats that will enhance the repertoire of both Christian and secular choirs. The lyricists and composers are proven songwriters that bring a wealth of experience to the choral market and have provided songs that cover a broad spectrum of styles and difficulty and should appeal to many choirs who regularly present music in churches or concert halls.
Norman Bearcroft, now a retired Salvation Army officer was the founder of the modern day Canadian Staff Band and the International Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army. When he was head of Salvation Army music in the United Kingdom he joined forces with Catherine Baird, herself a retired officer, and created this fine trilogy, the last movement of which formed part of the very first guest appearance by The King’s Singers at a Salvation Army event, the 2005 “Hendon Highlights” at the Royal Festival Hall. We went on to record our own arrangement of the whole piece as the final tracks of our CD entitled “Reflections”, in 2008.
